Slingbox really freaked me out with the early reports that the “older” Slingboxes may not be compatible with the iPhone app. Well I am happy to say that I took the risk, picked up the software in the App Store and I am glad I did.

This is the best version of the Slingplayer mobile App that they have come out with. Though it is annoying that I can’t stream via Edge it works flawlessly via WiFi.
I would be annoyed that I couldn’t run it on 3G if I were on AT&T, but since my iPhone is G1 on T-Mobile I’m not able to get anything more than Edge from T-Mobile. So I’m not missing out on anything there. And a majority of my time is spent near WiFi.
Now I’ve got my iPod sitting in my Flextune horizontally and I’ve got a nice portable TV that I can carry around. The controls are very easy to learn and the favorites work very well in this configuration. This is much easier to use than the WinMob version.
This TV tuner place shifter gets a 4 out 5 Ls

I’ve been wanting to get back into reading but just haven’t made the time nor do I really want to acquire more stuff to put on the limited shelf space I have left in the house. The Kindle resolves this. If you don’t know about the Kindle 2 I really encourage you to check out the marketing material on the Amazon.com site.
In a nut shell, the Kindle lets you shop for books without the internet. It uses eInk to display the pages of the book, which let me tell you is VERY easy to read on the eyes. I spent a whole Saturday reading without any eye strain. It was wonderful to read out on the patio, whenever I bring my laptop out there, I’m always adjusting to see the display.
The other issue is having the time to go to the bookstore, now I can shop for books any time of day anywhere I’m at. And the ability to get a sample chapter lets me decide if I should pick up the book or not. So far I’ve loaded up a couple of free books from the web, but nothing beats going through the Amazon store. It’s very cool to be able to surf via the Kindle to find something to read and click click click in a few minutes it’s yours and ready to go.
The only downside is not every book is available on the Kindle though the library continues to grow, and there is an option to send a request to the publisher to release the book via Kindle. I’m hoping more and more publishers will hop onto the Amazon bandwagon.
I give the Kindle 2 a 5 out of 5 Ls
You can order the Kindle 2 or it’s new big brother the Kindle DX from Amazon.
Okay I’ve gone through the walk through of the Stalker App from Stanford’s iPhone programming class, as well as the iTennis one from iCodeBlog.com and I’m getting how everything connects together, now I just need to get the commands all into my head so I know what to call

Okay my Tablo is ordered and should be here tomorrow according to UPS >fingers crossed<. Once I get it in hand and get it up and running I’ll update this post to reflect the product. But on a side note, I do have to mention UnicSen where I ordered it from. They are very nice and appear to have some really cool gadgets that I’ll be checking out. I know I don’t have the “Opraha” effect but if your looking to order the Tablo I certainly recommend going through UnicSen.
So more on the Tablo in the next few days, and maybe I’ll get a chance to grab one of those Cube3 4gb video cubes and get a review posted on that soon too
Well I’ve finally made the switch. I’ve moved out of Serendipity and into WordPress. And the move of all my domains is almost complete. I can certainly see why so many people use it and it looks like it’s been well developed over the years. The image editing control in blog is amazing. I should have made the switch long ago.
This week will be focused mostly on the day job at QOL.com working on the MyAlganon Library‘s additional features. This weekend I’ll be focusing on the Tutorials I found at iPhone Development Central. I’ve started on the Tammy Patrick website but I’ve still got some CSS issues I’m working out as well as a couple issues with the results I’m getting from Stash.
