House Fire Follow Up

I really feel for the family that lived here. On a bright note, my understanding is they left yesterday morning and no one was hurt.

Review : Mobiblu UFO MP3 Player

photo-23WOW, the Mobiblu UFO mp3 player is the perfect accessory for a little music at a party.  Simply load it up with music and connect to a large surface and listen to the music radiate from the surface.  This is the first (if not only) NXT mp3 player.  For those of you who don’t know what NXT is.  It’s the same technology you see in the flat panel speakers.  I’ve had previous experience with the Macally Tune Pro for my iPod.

Basically how it works is the UFO comes with a sticker with a metalic side.  Stick it to a table, desk, door what ever you want to turn into a speaker.  photo-33Then you attach the UFO player magnetically to the sticker and it sends the good vibrations into the surface and the sound radiates from the surface.  It worked perfectly on my desk and pretty wild having the sound coming out of the desk.  While the Macally version of the speaker I have doesn’t have any “hotspot” the UFO does get hotter closer to the device.

One of the coolest things was taking the UFO player and attaching it to a metallic closed lid trashcan and the sound was great.  I was walking with my Ma the other day and when we stopped to take a little break, I attached it to the utility box and it turned that into a speaker.

photo-43The Mobiblu UFO player is the funnest and EASIEST MP3 player without a display I’ve gotten my hands on.  It’s so simple that Ma can use it.  Keep in mind simple and easy to use, usally means some of the extra features aren’t there.  Obviously with no screen the only feedback to what is playing is the actual audio.  It would be nice when your going to sleep to be able to turn off the very cool blue LEDs that light up the bottom.

Next party I have I’ll be using the UFO player to provide the music, it’s a great center piece to making conversation too. ;)

I give this MP3 player a 4 out 5 Ls

Review : Rebel Touch case for iPod touch G2

photo-25One case to rule them all.  Okay maybe that’s a bit much, but I really do love this Rebel Touch case from SwitchEasy.com.  It’s a combo soft and hard shell case that really make the iPod feel like a solid device without adding a lot of bulk.  In Batman-esk fashion the skin slides over the iPod and the shell snaps into place wrapping it’s poly-carbon tentacles around all the important places.  And something that comes with that is missing in most cases is the nifty little port cover I’m sure to loose someday, but I’ll love it while I have it.

I have been a big fan of the iFrogz treadz case, which I have for both my iPod touch & iPhone 1st Generations, mostly because it allows you to set the device on it’s side, so kind of a built in stand.  While not perfect it was a nice feature, but did add a little bulkiness to the touch, not as noticeable on the iPhone.  But >sniff sniff< there is no Treadz style case for the 2ndGen iPod touch so searching through the internet I went until I came across the Rebel Touch.

Switch Easy really goes the extra mile with the port cover, which is a really nice feature that helps “complete” the case. They also provide a stand a little more sturdy than the one that came with the original iPod touch.  Again something I’m sure to loose someday, but I’ll enjoy it while I have it.

photo-33The case doesn’t get in the way of working with applications and gives you enough clearance to get to the edge.  I also like that once i scuff up the shell I can order a replacement one, maybe even one of a different color for a few bucks.  The skin is fits nice and tight and doesn’t interfere with the volume or sleep/wake buttons.  There is a nice bevel that should protect the screen if you lay it face down, and they provide a couple of scratch covers for the touch screen.

The only thing that could be done is if they figured out some ingenious way to get a video kick stand built in instead of the one I’ll loose.  The Rebel Touch case is available from http://switcheasy.com/

I give it 4 out 5 Ls and is available now

Review : iPod touch 2ndGen w/3.0

photo-52Okay originally I was going to skip the 2nd Gen touch and wait for the 3rd Gen, however no announcement at WWDC makes me think they aren’t going to update the iPod line until Sept of this year and I of course didn’t want to wait.

So I picked up the 2nd Generation iPod touch on the eve of the 3.0 release.  Knowing that in the next few days that the 3.0 software would be release and new features were to be added.  But BOY was I suprised when I loaded up the 3.0 system and ZOWIE Bluetooth support for my iPod, whoo hoo no more cords!  The best part about the upgrade was (as I mentioned in my Gen1 iPhone 3.0 post) getting the landscape mode on most of the apps.  motorola_ht820The bluetooth was a big deal for me because I’ve got the Motorola 820 Bluetooth Headphones/Headsets and FINALLY I can use them in bluetooth mode without buying a $50 adapter.

The iPod touch 2ndGen is a little different form factor than the original and is slightly thinner.  I actually like the original design better, but this is more “iPhone” looking with the chrome edge.  The built in speaker is great to have but is by no means going to be the “primary” mode of listening, but is great for when your playing a game like Peggle or Zombieville.

For me the iPod touch is the best Music, Gaming, Internet Device on the market, and the features of 3.0 just add more icing to the cake.  If you’ve got MobileMe the find my iPhone service works with both 1stGen and 2ndGen iPod touches and is a great little way to send messages to who’s holding it.

The Apple iPod Touch 2nd Generation gets 5 out of 5 Ls

Now if they will just come out with a camera in one and a tablet version I’ll be happy, for now ;)  If you haven’t upgraded to 3.0, what are you waiting for?

Review : 1 vs 100 Live on Xbox

photo-4Someone please call Intervention, I need help.  I’m completely addicted to 1 vs 100 Live on Xbox.   Right now it’s in Beta, but it’s a great Pop-Triva game that bring people from all over the world together to play.  There are to modes the 1 Vs 100 Live mode and then extended play afterward.

1 VS 100 Live
much like the TV show of the same name someone is selected from the crowd to be “the one” that goes against the mob.  While they are in beta  they aren’t issuing prizes, but my understanding is the final version will.  The goal is simple, out stump either the one of the “mob”.  Now in the TV show it’s pretty simple to see how the one takes on the 100 and as the people in the mob get knocked out they go dark and that mob member is out for the round.  However in the virtual version you still get to play along, I’m not sure if you can win the points or not.  But it’s a heck of a lot of fun that the whole family can play.  There is even a live host that moves things along and explains what happening to really give it that game show feel.  The whole experience is quite fun.  From waiting in the staging area while they setup the game, to sitting on the vitural Sprint Studios during the game play.  It’s like seeing your avatar on TV.

photo-23Extended Play
Is a little different but the same concept.  Instead of 1 vs the Mob it’s Mob vs Mob, and you can see how you score up against 1,000s of other players.

If you’ve got an Xbox and an Gold Account I highly recommend joining in on the fun.  Check out the schedule at Xbox Live

1 vs 100 Live gets 4 out of 5 Ls

See ya on the game board!
